The McDonnell Douglas F-18 Hornet is a carrier-based multi-role aircraft used to attack both
aerial and ground targets. It was adopted by the U.S. Navy and Marine
Corps in January 1983.
LEGO® Model vs. Real
Variants A and C are single-seat planes while B and D have two seats. (This means that
my model is either an A or a C... I never decided which.) Note that the F/A-18E/F Super
Hornet is a different airplane designed after the F/A-18A-D.
This was the first modern fighter I created and is still one of my favorites.
The challenge was, as always and most importantly, to get the overall shape
right. Aside from that I wanted retractable landing gear and a full payload
of weapons.
Ordnance includes:
- 1 Extra fuel tank
- 4 Sparrow missiles
- 2 Sidewinder missiles
- 2 Paveway III bombs
- 2 JSOW cruise missiles (with retractable wings)
Note that I am not an expert on aircraft or their armaments, I am simply an enthusiast. If something is incorrect, let me know and I'll do my best to fix it.
